Faith In Action

In Response to God's Love

Our mission and service are done in response to God's love. We have chosen to respond to that  love by providing safe, decent and affordable homes. As a Christan ministry, we do this to demonstrate the love and teachings of Jesus.

But, as Millard Fuller pointed out when he talked about “the theology of the hammer”, everyone can use the hammer as an instrument to manifest God’s love. “We may disagree on all sorts of other things,” explained Fuller, “but we can agree on the idea of building homes with God’s people in need.” We welcome all people to build with us in partnership.

“The Bible teaches that God is the God of the whole crowd,” said Fuller. “God’s love leaves nobody out, and my love should not either.”

Biblical Basis for No-Interest Loans

We provide mortgages for partner families that are at 0% interest. This makes the houses more affordable but also acts out the Biblical admonition of Exodus 22:25: If you lend money to my people, to the poor among you, you shall not deal with them as a creditor; you shall not exact interest from them.

As Millard Fuller, founder of Habitat for Humanity International, said, “As followers of Jesus, we are more interested in people than profits.

Congregational and Faith Communities

“A lot of times we learn about service, we learn about love, and we talk about it. But Habitat lets us put it all into practice.” Jimmy Carter

Habitat for Humanity’s ministry offers a unique opportunity for people to experience their faith in action and to see the hands of God at work outside the four walls of a worship space.

Each year, faith communities join together to build and rehab homes. Your worshipping community is invited to put your faith into action.

Stewardship of Creation

Whether on our build sites or through ReStore, being good stewards of God’s creation is at the center of everything we do.

  • Homes are built to Energy Star standards
  • Many Home Repair Ministry projects provide energy conserving improvements
  • ReStore saves 1.6 lbs of waste from landfills for every $1 sale.
  • ReStore is a drop off location to recycle electronics and paint. (link to page)
